There’s a fine line when it comes to decorating for a teen girl…
And when I say teen, I mean SEVEN-teen.
Which is basically 18 in a teenagers mind. Which is basically an adult. And you know what 17 year olds really dislike?
Looking like they live in a room made for a 16 year old.
Actually, I have no idea what 17 year olds like or think because this is the first time I’ve ever had one. Ha.
Did I mention I had never decorated for a girl? Or for a teen until this project?
Ahem.
My cousin came to live with us after the tragic death of both of her parents. She will be attending college here and we are so excited to have her in our home!
I thought it would be more of a challenge for me to come up with teen girl bedroom ideas, but I guess during this process I realized one thing… I am still girly at heart even after all these boys have taken over my life.
And let’s be honest, I was stoked to do some girl decorating for once.
I also realized that being girly doesn’t have to look like princess parties and barbie doll houses.
Being girly can be simple.
One thing I wanted to make sure of? That it wasn’t too “little girly” looking.
I know 17 year olds and the last thing they want to bring there friends home to is a room full of frills and dolls.
I was tempted, trust me, to make this SUPER girly, but I like to say it’s more like “pops of girl” then full blown girl.
Adding encouraging quotes to the wall is a great way to keep the room inspirational, especially after a hard day at class.
To be honest, I used a lot of stuff that I already had in my decor stash. The “B” used to be in Bentley’s room, but I think it fits perfect in Bailey’s new room.
One of my favorite pieces of this room is the framed vinyl print that my friend Kelly, from A+ Signs, whipped up for me the night before her arrival.
It’s so simple, yet has such meaning. If y’all need a vinyl saying… Kelly can customize anything you want. I bought foam board at Hobby Lobby for $6 and put the vinyl saying on it.
Super cheap project and adds a personalization to the room.
I’ll be honest, the cow print lamp was the first piece I bought for this room. I based all my decisions off that lamp.
I let her pick out the comforter, but oh-my-gosh, she couldn’t have picked a better one! I love that it looks rather similar to my wedding dress. LOL!
Thankful that she trusted me to decorate this room for her. It used to be our podcast/video studio and it looks so much cooler as a girl’s bedroom. Hehe!
We moved the studio upstairs and now I am on to decorating that.
I am loving having another female in our house (and so are the boys). I have always wanted a daughter and even though she is not technically MY daughter… she is as close as it gets!
It’s going to be a good year!
