It’s almost the Fourth, so I’ve got red, white, and blue on my mind. Starting with the picket fence, the brick-paved path, and the flag on the porch, this classic country farmhouse in Illinois looks like a perfect place to celebrate the holiday, doesn’t it?

After I saw photos of the outside of this farmhouse on Pinterest, I tracked down these interior photos at Better Homes and Gardens. They were really small (hate that!), so I enlarged them as much as possible so we could see more details.

The article says, “Combining rosy-red gingham, cool blue mattress-ticking, and crisp white walls, the living room exudes all-American country appeal.”

I just love this twisty staircase:

What surprised me was that it’s a new addition:

“The home’s original dark and boxy staircase was given an open, curvy makeover. Now it combines curvaceous modern lines with old-fashioned beaded-board delights; an arched screen door serves as wall art.”

A nod to outhouses of yore on the bathroom door:

I’m glad they didn’t paint over the original brick in the bathroom:

They replaced the linen closet door in the upstairs hallway with a blue screened door, papered the walls with red and white gingham, and filled it with their collection of country quilts:

The homeowners wanted a country-cottage kitchen look, but it had standard cabinets that they didn’t want to replace. To save money they painted them white, added some reproduction hardware, and added glass doors to the upper cabinets:
