Cottage Fix honeysuckle and a summery quilt

Cottage Fix honeysuckle and a summery quilt

Good morning Cottage Fix friends! The heat and humidity have landed here on the east coast which is no surprise since we’re already into June. It’s in the mid-eighties today with moderate humidity and it really doesn’t feel that bad. I quite like these kinds of days, especially when the AC is cranked up if you know what I mean. With the humidity often come the rains, not all day, just here and there. So the garden is looking a little wild, everything is growing, including the weeds and honeysuckle.

I’m dabbling in our bedroom today. It’s a room I don’t tend to show often because it’s usually either a mess or piled up with clean folded laundry, and sometimes both. It happens. Also, I’m not at all entirely thrilled with this room. We haven’t gotten around to doing much in here. It has dark gray walls and soft gray wall-to-wall carpeting, a helicopter style ceiling fan, and a dated en-suite. I would like to tweak the en-suite and then take it from there. I really don’t mind the gray wall color, but the gray carpet and helicopter ceiling fan won’t be with us for the long haul. I’ll probably change the wall color then too.

For now I added this summery cotton toile quilt and a tarnished silver pitcher filled with honeysuckle and privet. The quilt is to protect our white bedding from the debris that comes with our sleepy time companion. If you’d asked me a couple of years ago about what I thought about sleeping with a furry, dirty pawed, stinky little monster, I would have gasped in horror. Well, I don’t know how it happened exactly, but Paisley trots her little behind up the stairs each night and makes herself comfortable at the foot of our bed. So that soft summery quilt is basically hers. Gasp!

I don’t usually bring flowers up to our bedroom, not sure why. They make a huge difference though, even a haphazard bouquet like this. I think I’ll be doing it more often now!

My husband pointed out to me that our bedroom doesn’t really “go” with the rest of our cottage. He’s right. It’s an add on and lacks the character of our original home. The ceilings are lower and it’s missing the hardwood floors that we love so much in the other rooms. I have to say after living here for three years, the wall-to-wall carpet will be staying, well I want to get new wall-to-wall I mean. It’s comfortable underfoot in the bedroom. When it’s time, I’m going to try to find something kind of like berber that resembles natural fibers. Can’t wait for that!
